There aren't any photos this week. Mark met with Bob and a
structural engineer, who decided that the way to approach the back of the
house, and to keep it from falling into the hole would be to run a steel
beam across the back and bolt it to the foundation. It would extend beyond
the east and west sides of the house, and would be anchored into pilings.
Mark called around, and found a guy in El Mirage, or some such scary
place, who can make the beam. While the steel guys
are fabricating a support beam, Mark is finishing several of the jobs he
currently has going.
By the way, this is our first cost overrun!
Check back for Week Three, during which we anticipate the
support beam will be placed, and excavation will commence on the basement.
