The first week of the project was demolition. There are a
lot of pictures for Week One, and they may take a minute or two to load on
a dial-up connection.
The second week of the project is Thanksgiving week. Not much happened. The third week is preparation and excavation. The support beam was fabricated over Thanksgiving, and was trucked in and placed in position with a crane. The beam is bolted to the foundation, and will support the house during the excavation, and until the new foundation is in place. Week four is excavation and concrete. And cats. Week five is footings, rebar, and concrete. With a forecast for rain. Week six is plumbing rough-in and a red tag. Week seven is a green tag, a slab pour, and a bunch of rain and fog. Week eight is block walls. Week nine is more work on the block, and black tar as waterproofing. Week ten didn't see much activity, as we were waiting for the excavation guy to come back so the window wells could be installed. Things are starting to change in Week eleven. Window wells, backfill, and framing in the basement. Week twelve is a floor, some walls, and a forecast for more rain. Week thirteen got a late start, due to mud on the site, but rafters were eventually delivered and a roof put on the house. Week fourteen. Rain Sucks. Cool picture of the Wake-up Bunny, though. Week fifteen. More framing, and some really cool crown molding. Week sixteen was windows. Grout was poured in Week seventeen, as well as some basement framing. And some other stuff that's too good to miss. About Cats. Week eighteen will take a while for you to download if you're still running a 56K modem. A whole bunch of interior demolition. The dining room and kitchen are now one room. The bathroom is gone. Now that we're fighting on three fronts, I'll probably start breaking these into more manageable pages. Week Nineteen. Everybody's clowning on me. Week Twenty. Electricity. And the City of Phoenix being massive jerks. Week Twenty One. Doors. Doorways moved. More electricity. A visit from a prominent retired construction company magnate. And the beginnings of stucco. Week Twenty Two. More plumbing. A water heater. Concrete forms on the patio. Week Twenty Three. Don, the building inspector, sucks. Patio. Week Twenty Four. Driveway. More inspection blues. Week Twenty Five. Green Tag. Carport. Insulation. Drywall. Week Twenty Six. The half-year mark. Viet Nam didn't last this long. Paint. Pavers. Drywall tape. Week Twenty Seven. Interior doors, molding, and paint. Week Twenty Eight. Kitties and ticks. Stucco. More paint. Week Twenty Nine. Kitchen Cabinets. More Stucco. More Detail. Weeks Thirty and Thirty One. I'm lazy and cheating and doing two weeks at a time. How much do you pay for this anyway? That's right--your expectations should be low. Wood floors and bathroom tile. Week Thirty Two. Demolition. And when soothing words no longer work. Week Thirty Three. Week Thirty-something. Cool. Not. Week Forty-something. We're in the house. Here are some pictures of the almost finished, almost livable space.
