Week Twenty Nine

It seems like only yesterday...

...and now, we're here. The stucco guys came out towards the end of the week and applied stucco. They had some brown stucco left over, so they put that on the wall. It will eventually be painted to match the rest of the house.

And just in case you actually wanted to see rooms, rather than color schemes, to the left is Brittany's room, and to the right is Justin's room (?). See the Justin Report for more details.

We're now down to detail work. This is the pocket door into the laundry room. Note the door casings and the baseboard. (If you're really quiet, you can probably still hear echoes of Chris cussing. None of the baseboard or door casing fit his mitre saw, and he didn't like that. It was too wide.) The brown thing at the top of the photo is the pull-down staircase.

Downstairs, Chris has been hard at work on the linen closet.

While upstairs, he put in this cool mail slot.

Back downstairs, the shower begins to take shape. On top of the brick curb in the foreground will be a glass block wall.

They've put up cement board in Brittany's bathroom. It's just waiting to receive tile.

Back downstairs, these are the wine cellar colors. The dark color is "Darkness Doe," and the light color is "Whisper." The painters ran out of paint before they hit the concrete block. It will eventually receive a coat of paint.

Fred's Electric began the finish work: outlets and covers.

This stuff is all cool, but the coolest thing of all was the delivery and installation of the kitchen cabintets. The cabinets were initially dumped on the front porch, then brought inside. The cabinet guy opened all the boxes and checked everything out for damage. He restacked stuff in the dining and living rooms.

By Friday, they're starting to go up. No one told the installer that the wall these cabinets are to be bolted to is solid brick. He apparently wasn't very happy.

By Saturday, the cabinets and doors are set. The only thing left is the crown molding and the light rail. The microwave was free with the install, and the sink base was free with the purchase of cabinets.

Discerning viewers might note the flooring. It's OSB. Mark talked with the flooring guy. He didn't like the kitchen floor. It had a bump in it about two inches high. He recommended an oriented strand board (OSB) sub-floor. I reluctantly agreed, as I hated to cover the dining room floor. The OSB was the only way to ensure that the stuff we put down on top of the old floor would cover and adhere.

This is the stuff we're using in the kitchen, the office, Brittany's room, and downstairs in the sitting room.

Enough about the house, it's time for...

The Justin Report

Down, the law was laid. We came home over the weekend and found a teeny little roach on the planter outside the front door. Justin has been advised against this in the past. It was 4:30 in the afternoon, and aside from going outside to smoke DOPE, Justin was still in bed. We got him up, and told him that from now on, the rules were in force. 1. Go to school each day, five hours per day, twenty-five hours per week. 2. No tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, or paraphernalia on the property. We have a few more, but these will suffice. Especially since they were both broken within a few days. Three strikes and he's out. He goes to live with brother Brandon.

Justin blew off school on Monday, attended about an hour on both Tuesday and Wednesday, and nothing the rest of the week, for a grand total of about two hours. During the same period, Earthlink shows 148 hours of internet usage. On Thursday, I noticed that he emptied the garbage can in his room immediately after I came home. I looked in the dumpster, as well as his garbage can, and noticed tobacco residue in both. Strike two.

It would be my guess that he doesn't make twenty five hours at school this week, and is living with his brother next week.

And we no longer have foil in the house, as he's using that to make smoking implements ever since he misplaced his cute, little pipe.

On a cooler note, it was Mom's somethingth birthday. We went to Tucson to celebrate with her. After a delicious steak dinner, we had cheesecake with a few candles.
