Week Six was plumbing rough-in.
Here's the Big Picture, taken from the really huge mound of
dirt. There's one layer of block in, as well as the rebar.
All of the basement plumbing drain pipe is in, although it may not stay this way, as it didn't pass inspection. I wandered by the house Friday evening and found the red tag. I looked at it, and there were five things the inspector found wrong. I didn't have a pen with me to copy them down, and when I went back Saturday morning, the plumber had already pulled the red tag off the pipe where the plans are located. Had we passed inspection, we would've poured concrete on Saturday. That'll happen in a few days, after the plumbing is fixed. |

This is the plumbing for the downstairs bathroom. The sink in in the corner, then the bathroom bowl, then the shower. The drainpipe goes to the macerating sump pump, which will be located under the stairs. |
After listening to all the complaining I can handle from Leisa, I went down to the Historic Preservation Office at the City on Tuesday and applied for a permit to knock down the cute little dilapidated garage. I was pretty much told we'd be denied, and given instructions for appealing the verdict. I got a voice mail on Friday morning from some chick who told me that demolishing a building in a historic district is pretty much an automatic denial. We'd have to appeal that verdict based on economic hardship needs. Our argument would be that it would cost us way too much to rehab the building as compared to building a new one. That process may end up with its own page, just like the cats have.
We got a notice from the mason in the mail yesterday, telling us that we're on the hook for the cost if the contractor doesn't pay him. We also got our first payment notice from the bank. It was dated December 20, postmarked December 23, and received December 30 or 31, notifying us that the payment due date is January 1. Our first interest-only payment for the amount advanced for paying off the old mortgage, plus the amount of the first draw is $651.00, which is less than the monthly payment on my old mortgage.
Here's a picture of Judge Milian, just because.
And since Leisa doesn't know how to work FrontPage, there will be no picture of George Clooney here.
